| Introduction
Multimedia Systems Lab of National
Informatics Centre, one of the pioneers in the field of Multimedia
Technology and Applications, was established in September 1992 with the
vision of providing low cost Multimedia solutions to the Indian multimedia
market. This Lab has been reorganized as Multimedia Engineering and
Facilities Division or Videoconferencing Division to provide &
maintain NIC Videoconferencing Services. The division also has the
following areas of responsibilities:
Basic Technology development leading to the
creation of facilities, hardware, system software, interface electronics,
interface software and standardization on all aspects of Multimedia
Communication, Interactive Multimedia, Videoconferencing, and Interactive
TV.
In the field of
Videoconferencing since 1995, the technical expertise of Videoconferencing Division
is unmatched in the country. Videoconferencing division has also setup a
network of 490 Videoconferencing sites over NICNET located at various
cities all over India. This network runs on high-speed satellite highway
of NIC called NICNET.

Profile
There is only one feature which makes an
organization differ from others and that is the People behind. The
knowledge base of the division comprises of multi-disciplinary
individuals, which includes people from Engineering, Management, Product
design and Visual Communication backgrounds. An amalgamation of varied
interest of individuals creates a positive working environment.
Videoconferencing division keeps the hierarchical management system at one
side when it comes to team work. Every lab member is part of the
