Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated FICCI Ladies Organisation Web site through Video Conferencing. Address of the website is www.wbconline.com.
Mr Naidu addressed the gathering at FICCI Auditorium at Federation House, Delhi from NIC Hyderabad Studio over Videoconferencing. NIC had moved a Portable SCPC VSAT to FICCI, New Delhi for the event.
Hon'ble Chief Minister made a presentation and answered the interactive question answer session from the audience and the press for over 45 minutes.

Videoconference of Chief Ministers from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra & Union Health Minister on HIV / AIDS - Imperative for action on 30th November 2000 on the eve of 'Worlds Aids Day'.
Union Health Minister Sh. C. P Thakur interacted with Chief Minister of Karnataka Sh S.M.Krishna, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri V.R.Deshmukh and Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri Chandrababu Naidu over videoconferencing on 30th November 2000 on the eve of 'Worlds Aids Day'.
Video conference was organised by UNAIDS in association with Union Health Ministry. The conference was moderated by Shri Vikram Chandra of NDTV and it lasted for about 40 minutes.
The objective of the conference was to -
- Draw attenditon to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and need for a strengthened, multisectoral response to HIV/AIDS at the state level.
- Identify priorities for action at the state level and potential area for cooperation between states.
-Sharing lessons that have emerged from state action in the last decade of our response to HIV.
Union Health Minister came to NIC, Delhi VC studio whereas Chief Minister Karnataka came to NIC, Bangalore VC studio and Chief Minister Andhra Pradesh came to NIC, Hyderabad studio. Maharashtra Chief Minister participated from Nagpur where we had moved the Portable SCPC VSAT.
This video conference was done over NICNET at mixed data rates where 3 sites participated at data rate of 512 Kbps and Hyderabad site participated at data rate of 384 Kbps.

Prime Minister's Interaction over Videoconferencing with Local representatives, Social workers & Gram Pradhans of Lucknow

Honourable Prime Minister Sh Atal Bihari Vajpayee interacted with Local representatives, Social workers & Gram Pradhans of Lucknow over Video Conferencing on Saturday 25th November, 2000.
The Video meeting was organised over NICNET at 768 Kbps by using two Portable SCPC VSATs; one at PM's residence in New Delhi and other at Lucknow Development Authority, Lucknow. It was an interactive meeting which lasted for more than 30 minutes with near TV quality video.
In his inaugural address Honourable Prime Minister appreciated the progress made in the field of Science and Technology by utilizing such state of the art technology of Videoconferencing, which has reduced the barrier of distance between the two locations making it easier to interact as if everyone were present in the same room.
Shri R.P.Singh, Director, Prime Minister's Office in his vote of thanks note appreciated the efforts taken up by National Informatics Centre in promoting this state of art technology in various Government Ministries and Departments at both Central & State level.

The VC setup was installed by NIC,Hyderabad at the request of State Government from Hitech City in Hyderabad to Godhuma Kunta village through two SCPC VSATs. A data speed of 768 Kbps was used over NICNET for the VVIP video conference.
Hon'ble President interacted for 20 minutes over video conference to understand the DWCRA project of Andhra Pradesh Government. Various products and handicraft items made by the village women were shown to the President over video conference.
NIC, Hyderabad VC/VSAT team and NIC Delhi VC team worked together jointly for making arrangements for this important video conference which was made possible within 24 hours of notice by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated through video conference Power Grid's Optical Fibre Link between Delhi-Chandigarh on Extra High Voltage lines.
Hon'ble Prime Minister participated in the inaugural function over video conference from his residence at 6.30 PM on 2nd August 2000.
More than 200 guests had assembled at NIC Convention Hall, Delhi / BBMB Complex, Chandigarh which included many senior officers of Central Government, State Governments of Punjab/Haryana and the Press.
Lt Gen (Retd.) JFR Jacob, Governor of Punjab and Shri Om Prakash Chauata, Chief minister of Haryana addressed the gathering from Chandigarh. Shri P.R. Kumaramangalam (Union Minister of Power) and Smt Jayawanti Mehta (Union Minister of State for Power), Secretary (Power) and CMD Power Grid also participated in the function from PM's residence.
For this event NIC had put two portable SCPC VSATs, one at PM residence and other at Ballabhgarh substation of Powergrid. Digital data from SCPC VSAT was patched at Ballabhgarh end with Optical Fibre link of Powergrid between Ballabhgarh-Chandigrah on EHV lines. The 3 site multi-point video conference was conducted at 768 Kbps using MCU at NIC, New Delhi.

First National IT MINISTER'S Conference chaired by Honourable

Ministry of Information Technology (MIT) had organised first National conference of Chief Ministers/IT Ministers of different states and Union territories on 15th July (Saturday) at Parliament House Annexue.
The conference was inaugurated by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Atal B. Vajpayee. The participants included 14 Chief Ministers and IT Ministers from rest of the States.
NIC had provided following services in this one day conference :
1. Video Conferencing at 768 Kbps between Parliament Annexue and PIB Conference Hall by using Portable SCPC VSAT at Annexue and Portable SCPC VSAT at PIB.
2. Connecting 15 state NIC VC studios over video Conferencing at 128 Kbps during the time when their respective chief ministers made presentation. State Government officials from the respective State witnessed the presentation of their Chief Minister / IT Minister from the NIC VC Studio.
3. High Speed Internet connection in the conference hall by extending NIC's LAN in Parliament Annexue (on ISDN lines).
4. Technically coordinating the Power point and Multi-media presentations of all the states.
5. Preparing CD-ROMs for distribution in the conference.
The event was very important for VC Division as Prime Minister/Minister of IT/ Minister of Telecommunication/Chief Ministers/IT Ministers/ IT Secretaries and other important dignitaries of Central and State Government witnessed NIC's capabilities in the video conferencing.

Inauguration of TERI's Retreat by Honourable Prime Minister over Videoconferencing
Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister of India today inaugurated the country's first-ever eco-friendly building complex in a unique ceremony over Videoconferencing established by National Informatics Centre. The trend-setting complex houses a state-of-the-art training complex cum conference centre of the Tata Energy Research Insitute (TERI). The virtual inauguration was conducted over Videoconferencing between Gual Pahari, Gurgaon and PM's residence.
Videoconferencing Division had installed Portable VSAT at both the locations for establishing the communication. This was the first time Honourable Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee used the videoconferencing services of National Informatics Centre. This was also the first time that VC Division successfully used a data speed of 768 Kbps over NICNET.
Dignitaries present on the occasion at Gula Pahari, Gurgaon included Mr K C Pant, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission; Mr Suresh Prabhu, Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers; Mr Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, and Disinvestment; and Dr Arun Shourie, Minister for Planning, Statistics and Programme Implementation. They were accompanied by several corporate CEOs, Ambassadors, and decision-makers from the government.
The dignitaries and visitors present at Retreat Complex appreciated NIC's Videoconferencing services and were impressed by the near TV quality video transmission during the conference. Dr. Pachauri, Director , TERI in his Vote of Thanks speech commended the hard work, efforts and support provided by the Videoconferencing team of NIC in making the conference a great success.

Hon'ble CM Rajasthan Video Conferencing with villagers of Rajasthan and IAS Probationers
Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussorie conducted a videoconferencing session using NICNET with Honourable Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Ashok Gehlot and the District Administration of Jaisalmher. The objective of the session was to provide, the IAS Probationers an insight into the Disaster Management issues and how District and State Administration of Government of Rajasthan is tackling the drought and famine which has affected the State of Rajasthan.
Hon’ble Chief Minister addressed the IAS probationers at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration apprising them of various steps and measures being taken by the State Govt. to help the drought affected areas in the state. It is said knowledge is not filing of pail but burning of fire thus Videoconferencing is proving to be an important agent in spreading the knowledge through informative interactions, such as this.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan also interacted with the villagers of the village “Guchiyon Ki Ber” in Fatehgarh Tehsil. He discussed the drought problem with the villagers and heard their grievances and assured them of prompt action. Shri Rajat Sharma, DM Jaisalmher also gave a short presentation explaining the relief operations being carried out by the District administration in tandem with the State Government.
NIC provided the technical expertise in making the conference a great success. The village “Guchiyon Ki Ber” was around 70 Kms from Jaisalmher city where NIC had installed its Portable VSAT and VC equipments. At Jaipur, FTDMA antenna at CM office Rajasthan was used with SCPC
RFT/modem.

Hon'ble CM Andhra Pradesh Video Conferencing with villagers of Parlapalli

We are on the brink of an era where computers have become ubiquitous and have entered into all spheres of life and this is what is giving birth to new concepts like e-governance.
One of the states where the implementation of e-governance is going on war footing, is Andhra Pradesh under the able guidance of Hon Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri Chandrababu Naidu.
With the help of NIC videoconferencing services, Hon’ble CM’s vision of e-governance took one step further, when he had an elaborate VC session with Collector, Local MLA, other village officials and villagers of Parlapalli of Andhra Pradesh in Timapur Mandal, to take stalk about the implementation of various state level policies and projects.
Videoconferencing division has installed portable VSAT and videoconferencing equipments at both the ends to make the conference possible. This was the first conference out of series of such conferences which Hon’ble CM has desired to conduct within a period of one week.
Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and other officials present along with him appreciated the efforts put in by the NIC.

Hon’ble Union Minister of Law, Justice & Company Affairs inaugurated the Registrar of Companies and Regional Director’s videoconferencing at NIC Videoconferencing Studio. Hon’ble Minister had a discussion about the implementation of the various policies with the ROC’s and RD’s of different states.
He was very enthusiastic about the technology, which has made it possible to interact with the remote locations without going out of your city. He encouraged all the ROC’s and RD’s to avail this state of the art technology more often, which will help in faster decision making thus increasing the productivity and efficiency of the local staff.

Videoconferencing system in trial of Prisoners

A demonstration on the possibility of introducing video conferencing system in the trial of prisoners was demonstrated here on Saturday in the presence of the Law Minister, Mr. Aladi Aruna. The occasion, besides enabling the inmates of the Central Prison here, who were interviewed, to participate in the electronic system process, provided an opportunity to them to mention their grievances.
The Law Minister explained that the system was welcome, and to begin with, it could be used for extension of remand for prisoners. But the arrangement could be adopted only after amendment to the Cr.P.C. Besides Mr. Aruna, the Home Secretary, Mrs.Santa Sheela Nair, Registrar of Madras High Court, Mr. T. V. Masilamani, Inspector- General of Prisons, Mr. K.V.S. Murthy, DIG of Prisons, Mr. L. Vijayanarayanan and officials of National Informatics Centre,where the demonstration was held, participated.
At the end of the programme, it was officially explained that technologically the system was functioning well. It could be introduced to avoid unnecessary movement of prisoners, particularly hardcore ones, delay in production of prisoners before courts and waste of court's time. Also, overcrowding in courts and unnecessary incidents involving prisoners could be avoided. The video-conferencing method, which was one of the means, could be introduced after amending the law, initially for remand extension.
In the U.S. and U.K., the whole trial process was being conducted using the system, Mr. Murthy said. The demonstration was inter-linked with the Director-General of NIC, Dr. Vijay Aditya at New Delhi and the NIC centres at Bangalore and Hyderabad. A similar demonstration for Hyderabad prison was conducted recently. Dr. Aditya explained the features of the video-conferencing system, the cost involved and the maintenance charges. A demonstration on the
computerized Prisoner Information System was also held.

US President's Address over Telemedicine

NIC demonstrated its Mobile Videoconferencing services to Hon'ble US President Mr. Bill Clinton during his visit to Hyderabad on 24th March 2000. Two parallel Videoconferencing sessions was held from Hi Tech City, Hyderabad and with two remote villages of Andhra Pradesh.
A video conference meeting was made operational between Hi Tech City, Hyderabad and a remote village "Gogaram" with the request of Government of Andhra Pradesh. US President interacted with the villagers over Videoconferencing and discussed about the various development programmes being carried out by State and the Central Government in these villages. Portable Videoconferencing setup was installed at both the ends to make the conferencing possible.
Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad demonstrated Telemedicine Application using NIC Videoconferencing between Hi Tech City and Apollo Hospital, Aragonda which is around 700 Kms from Hyderabad city. US President interacted with a patient at Aragonda Village. This was first ever use of NIC Videoconferencing services in the area of Telemedicine and has opened a new area of application domain for NIC. Inauguration of National Design Centre Web Site

National Design Centre under the baton of National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi inaugurated its Website designdiary.com on 25th January 2000.
Honourable Minister of Textiles Shri Kashiram Rana chaired session from Delhi and cut the inaugural ribbon virtually. Honourable Minister of State Textiles Shri G.N.Ramachandran presided over the function from Chennai over Videoconferencing.
A 384 Videoconferencing link was established using ISDN between New Delhi and Chennai by the Videoconferencing group.
Honourable Union Minister & Minister of State for textiles appreciated the state of the art VC technology being used and promoted by NIC in reducing the distance virtually between two different cities.
