Address by Honourable President of India during International Conference on Cryptology over Videoconferencing - 20th December 2004

Honourable President of India Shri A.P.J.Abdul Kalam addressed a gathering of around 150 participants during INDOCRYPT-04, an International Conference on Cryptology being organised by Institute of Mathematical Sciences and the Society of Electronics Transaction and Security on 20th December 2004 over videoconferencing.

Honourable President Shri Kalam said the theme — `Cryptology and its application to secure network communications' — was "very important since we are moving into the era of e-business, e-marketing, e-commerce and e-banking." He said the conference should come up with authenticated and assured mechanisms of evolving cryptos with provable security of Indian genesis. National Informatics Centre provided the Videoconferencing facility by linking Rashtrapati Bhavan and Institute of Mathematical Sciences over NICNET at a high speed of 512 Kbps. The conference was well appreciated by the delegates attending the conference at the remote end who could interact with the president of India face-to-face over videoconferencing.

 

 

 

 

 

Launch of Software for monitoring works under Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme by Shri Oscar Fernandes, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation - 30th November 2004

Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation under the leadership of Shri Oscar Fernandes, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation launched a Software for monitoring of works under Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, designed and developed by MPI Informatics Division, National Informatics Centre on 30.11.2004 at the Main Auditorium, SCOPE Building, CGO Complex, Lodi Road, New Delhi.

Shri Somnath Chatterjee, Hon’ble Speaker launched the software and Smt Shiela Dixit Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi released the Manual of the Software. Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Hon’ble Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology presided over the function. Shri Charanjit Singh Atwal, Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Lok Sabha, Shri K. Rahman Khan, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha and Shri Prasana Acharya, Chairman, Committee on MPLADS, LokSabha graced the function. Shri J. Hari Narayan, Secretay MoS & PI appreciated the efforts of NIC team.

This event was also covered by NIC video conferencing. The Ministers spoke to the Ministers/Officers of Hyderabad (AP), Guwahati (Assam), Bhuwaneshwar (Orissa) and Chandigarh (Punjab) through videoconferencing.

Dr. B.K.Gairola, DDG (NIC) graced the occasion and encouraged the NIC team for efforts and endeavors in developing this software. 

This software will be implemented in all districts of the country for works monitoring under MPLADS. It would facilitate the districts to enter detailed information about each of the works undertaken under this MPLAD scheme, since the inception of the scheme in 1993. District authorities may enter the data in the offline mode using this software and the data will be uploaded into the web-enabled application available at URL http://www.mplads.nic.in. Data can be entered directly through this web-enabled application. General public can generate some predefined reports. Hon’ble MPs can also view the status of the works recommended by them.

 

 

 

 

Inauguration of Nagaland Videoconferencing Network by Hon'ble Chief Minister - 24th November 2004

Hon'ble CM interacting with NIC, New DelhiShri Nipheu Rio, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland today inaugurated the Video Conferencing facility for the State of Nagaland set up at 13 sites (11 Districts, Chief Minister’s Office at Kohima and Resident Commissioner’s Office at New Delhi). The Video Conferencing Network has been setup with funding support from DIT and Govt. of Nagaland.

During the inaugural function, DG(NIC), DDG(YKS), JS(Shri Pankaj Agrawala), Sr.TD(Dr. Shefali Dash), Sr.TD(Shri Rajesh Gera), TD(Shri IPS Sethi) were present at NIC VC Studio. Hon’ble Chief Minister interacted with NIC/DIT officials at NIC VC studio; Finance Minister of Nagaland, OSD to Union Home Minister Shri V.N.Gaur, Dy. RC at RC Office, New Delhi site; DCs/SPs/Senior Officials of Kohima, Dimapur, Phek, Mon, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Kiphre districts present at their respective district sites.

In his inaugural address, Hon’ble Chief Minister mentioned that:

“Today is indeed a landmark day for the state of Nagaland, and it is with great happiness and sense of pride and satisfaction that I am inaugurating this State-wide Video-conferencing network, linking length and breadth of the state as well as New Delhi.

“The transformation of the IT vision of our State into reality has been made possibleVC Studio of Mon District thanks to the active support and assistance provided by the Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India and the Delhi, Kohima and District Offices of the National Informatics Centre”

Shri Yitachu, Hon’ble Parliamentary Secretary for Information Technology and Technical Education chaired the function and Shri Rajiv Bansal, Commissioner & Secretary, IT & Technical Education conducted the session. Ministers of Nagaland Cabinet, Departmental Heads were present at Chief Minister’s Office during the function.


Chief Minister also discussed law and order situation in the districts and got reports on Municipal/Town Council Elections. He also desired regular usage of such a facility for day to day monitoring of various activities.

 


 

 

 

Inauguration of Five Remote Projects by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand  on the 4th State Day of the State over Videoconferencing – 15th November 2004

Presiding over the fourth State Day function at the Morhabadi ground Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri Arjun Munda inaugurated 5 Projects over Videoconferencing on 15th November 2004. 

The following projects were inaugurated - 

a. Water Treatment Plant,Kanke Road, Ranchi
b. Sewer Treatment Plant,Kanke Road, Ranchi
c. High Tech. Dairy at Ormanjhi, Ranchi
d. Modern Fishery Laboratory, near HEC, Dhurwa
e. Sidhu Kanhu Park, Ranchi

NIC, Jharkhand State Unit provided the Videoconferencing support from the Morhabadi Ground by connecting all the five locations over ISDN Network. Hon'ble Chief Minister addressed the authorities present at each site and successfully inaugurated the projects by unveiling the curtain at respective locations. A gathering of around 1 Lakh people witnessed the videoconferencing inauguration, which was projected live on big large screen projection systems.

 

 

 

 

 

Inauguration of Videoconferencing facility in the State of Jammu & Kashmir - 3rd November 2004

In a ceremonious atmosphere the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Jenab Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has inaugurated, at 11 AM on the 3rd of November 2004, the “NIC Videoconferencing Centre” of District Kupwara state of Jammu and Kashmir. With this District Kupwara is now connected through VC with the State Civil Secretariat at Jammu and Srinagar. Kupwara is the second District of the state, after Leh, to be connected with the State Civil Secretariat. 

The Hon’ble Chief Minister inaugurated the VC Centre by cutting the ribbon at the VC entrance and later with the inauguration address. He talked online with Hon’ble Minister for IT from District Leh, Commissioner/ Secretary IT, Resident Commissioner and Director General NIC from NIC VC studio New Delhi.  

The Hon’ble Chief Minister appreciated the efforts and emphasized for optimum utilization of this facility. He also emphasized that all the districts of J&K should be connected through Video Conferencing. During the discussion CM enquired about the implementation of Community Information Centres in J&K and issued the instructions for early providing of Citizen Oriented Services through each CIC. 

Congratulating National Informatics Centre (NIC) for covering various districts with Videoconferencing facility, the Chief Minister said it would help promote efficiency in administration besides being of significant use in difficult situations. He said this would facilitate monitoring of development programmes in districts and ensure greater accountability. He said the facility would connect remote districts of the state with countrywide network and in case of location constraints patients who cannot be moved to Srinagar or Jammu for urgent medical attention could receive expert medical opinion through the facility.

 

 

 

 

Address by Hon'ble President of India at 6th Annual Convention of South Asian Society for ATHEROSCLEROSIS and THROMBOSIS through Videoconferencing - 30th October 2004

 

Hon'ble President's Address as viewed on the Plasma Screen MonitorHon'ble President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam addressed at 6th Annual Convention of SOUTH ASIAN Society for ATHEROSCLEROSIS and THROMBOSIS being held at Hotel Fortune Katriya, Raj Bhavan Road, Hyderabad on 30th October, 2004 through Videoconferencing.

Videoconferencing link was established between Rashtrapati Bhavan and Hotel Fortune Katriya, Hyderabad at a speed of 768 kbps using VSAT of NIC and at the speed of 512 Kbps using leased line link of MTNL. The VSAT was kept as primary link and leased line link was kept as backup. The videoconferencing session lasted for more than an hour. Hon'ble President interacted with several delegates of the Seminar.

Hon'ble President appreciated the efforts done by NIC.

 

 

 

 

Inauguration of Rajasthan High Court Videoconferencing Network between its Jaipur and jodhpur Bench - 8th October 2004

Hon’ble Shri Anil Dev Singh, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court on 8th October 2004, inaugurated Videoconferencing facility between Principal seat and Jaipur bench of Rajasthan High Court.

Hon'ble Chief Justice of Rajasthan High COurt with his colleaguesThe videoconferencing facility is first of its kind in the country linking two courts in the State of Rajasthan. Hon’ble Chief Justice Mr. Justice Anil Dev Singh along with his colleagues Justice Mr. Y. R. Meena and Justice Mr. S. K. Keshote interacted with the Hon’ble judges of principal seat located at Jodhpur Hon’ble Mr. Rajesh Balia and Hon’ble Mr. N. N. Mathur. There were eleven Hon’ble Judges present at Principal seat; Jodhpur and Fourteen Hon’ble Judges were present at bench, Jaipur during the inaugural function. The objective of setting up this facility is to save time and cost involved in holding full court meetings, which was earlier being held at any one of the locations.

Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Anil Dev Singh also interacted with Dr. N.Vijayaditya, Director General, National Informatics Centre over videoconferencing as well appreciating the efforts put in by NIC/NICSI in setting up the videoconferencing facility at such a short notice. The inauguration took place over ISDN lines.

Videoconferencing held by Department of Coal, Ministry of Coal and Mines, Government of India - 14th September 2004

Department of Coal conducted its first videoconferencing session amongst its Coal PSU’s on 14th September 2004. Shri P. C. Parakh, Secretary, Department of Coal, Ministry of Coal and Mines chaired over the videoconferencing session from the Department and interacted with CMDs of the Coal Companies to review their performance using the state-of-the-art technology of video conferencing. 

The sites participated were Department of Coal, New Delhi, Coal India Limited, Kolkata (WB), Eastern Coalfields Limited, Sanctoria (WB), Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Central Coalfields Limited, Ranchi (Jharkhand), Northern Coalfields Limited, Singrauli (Madhya Pradesh), Western Coalfields Limited, Nagpur (Maharashtra), South Eastern Coalfields Limited, Bilaspur (Chattisgarh) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, Sambalpur (Orissa). 

At all the above locations SCPC DAMA VSAT based video conferencing and data communication has been commissioned under the COALNET plan of the Department by NIC/NICSI. 

On the occasion, Secretary, Department of Coal advised the officers of the Department to make use of video conferencing facility for holding various review meetings with the coal companies. He declared that henceforth he would have a monthly performance review meeting with the CMDs of the all coal companies using the Video Conferencing on 15th of every month. 

Dr. R. P. Saxena, DDG and Shri Piyush Goyal, TD from NIC were also present on the occassion.

 

 

 

Inauguration of Madhya Pradesh Videoconferencing Network by Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Babulal Gaur - 3rd September 2004

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Babulal Gaur dedicated the Videoconferencing facility from District informatics Centre, Rewa to the State and people by conferring over the VC facilities with 8 Divisional Commissioners/Collectors and Mantralaya on 3rd September 2004.

Hon’ble Chief Minister and officials accompanying the Chief Minister which included several ministers of State cabinet, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Principle Secretary to CM, Principal Secretary ( Revenue), Principal Secretary ( Urban Administration ), Mayor Rewa, Commissioner, Rewa and Collector Rewa interacted with senior functionaries at Mantralaya besides the Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors at Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Sagar, Morena and Hoshangabad. Shri. Babulal Gaur. Hon’ble Chief Minister appreciated the efforts put in by all concerned in commissioning the state of the art Videoconferencing network across the State by National Informatics Centre.

INAUGURATION OF PUNJAB TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY'S E-GOVERNANCE PROGRAMME BY HON'BLE PRESIDENT OF INDIA OVER VIDEOCONFERENCING - 25th AUGUST 2004

Hon'ble President addressing Patiala and Jalandhar Site over VideoconferencingHon'ble President of India Shri A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Azad inaugurated Punjab Technical University's first e-governance program over videoconferencing by interacting with students at Patiala and Jalandhar respectively. Hon'ble Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab participated in the inaugural function from Patiala and Jalandhar respectively.

The President delivered a lecture on the IT revolution and its wide ranging ramifications for the evolution of society, revamping agriculture and industry and for providing education in a vast and poor nation.

While Punjab Chief Minister Shri Amarinder Singh welcomed the President from a centre in Patiala, an overwhelmed Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said, "A marvel of science and technology was witnessed today." 

National Informatics Centre has provided Videoconferencing support at Rashtrapati Bhavan and the two remote locations at Patiala and Jalandhar respectively. The conference took place at 384 Kbps using ISDN network connectivity.

INAUGURATION OF VIDEOCONFERENCING FACILITY IN ALL DISTRICTS OF CHATTISGARH - 15th AUGUST 2004

In a ceremonious atmosphere the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Chattisgarh  Dr. Raman Singh inaugurated, at 12 noon on the 15th August 2004, the ‘NIC videoconferencing centres’ of all the  districts of the state. With this all the sixteen districts of the state are now connected through Videoconferencing with the State Secretariat at Raipur.

The inauguration ceremony has concluded on a grand note in the presence of leading public representatives, administrative officers, technocrats and press officials who interacted on VC from New Delhi, Raipur and all the sixteen district VC centres.  Prominent among them are   Dr. Raman Singh, C.M. (Chattisgarh) at VC Centre Raipur along with Mr. Ramesh Bais, MP(Raipur); Mr. A.K. Vijayvargiya, Chief Secretary (Chattisgarh);  Mr. K.K. Jaswal, Secretary DIT (Govt. of India) sitting along with Dr. N.Vijayaditya, DG(NIC),  at New Delhi;  Mr. Prem Prakash Pandey, Speaker Chattisgarh Vidhan Sabha at VC Centre Durg, Mr. Brij Mohan Agrawal, Home Minister at VC Centre Bastar, Mr. Amar Agrawal, Finance Minister at VC centre Bilaspur, Mr. Ajay Chandrakar, Minister of RD & Higher Education at VC centre Dhamtari. Other cabinet and state ministers also interacted with the Chief Minister from other district VC centres.  

The Chief Minister inaugurated the VC centres by pressing a button on the remote-control bringing himself online with the Secretary (DIT) and DG (NIC) whom he wished on the occasion of the independence day and thanked them for their contribution towards  development of the  State by bringing the latest in technology to the public of Chattisgarh. He expressed confidence that with this VC facility his Government would now be able to serve the poor and remote with considerable ease and expressed his desire to make effective use of technology for all round development of the State.  The Member of Parliament Mr. Ramesh Bais also congratulated every one for this great achievement.  The Secretary (DIT) too wished, all a happy and peaceful Independence day and congratulated the Chief Minister for his successful efforts to realize the best with the help of the latest Technology. 

In his one and a half hour long VC session the Chief Minister interacted with his ministers, one by one, present at all other fifteen VC centres spending 5 to 10 minutes with each. During his interaction he took stock of rainfall and status of free distribution of iodized salt under “Chhattisgarh Amrit Namak Yojana”. Besides sanctioning funds for various development activities, he declared immediate sanction of monitory help from CM relief fund as per the demand from various locations for the aid of patients suffering from cancer, heart and kidney diseases. 

Earlier when the State Informatics Officer of Chattisgarh Mr. M.K.Mishra informed the Secretary (DIT)  that the successful establishment of the VC centres in very short period was the collective effort of NIC HQ and the DIOs of all districts who worked day and night to achieve the target, Secretary (DIT) acknowledged, “ It is not unusual with NIC ”. To the fact that all the districts of the state have been provided VC facility he remarked “commendable”.  Dr. D.R. Shukla, Head LR Division & State Coordinator  had a brief discussion with the Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Mr. Ramesh Bais regarding the significance of Videoconferencing. 

The entire session was controlled through the Multipoint Conference Unit (MCU) of NIC HQ. The arrangement was so made by the MCU that while one site was interacting with Raipur all remaining sites received the broadcast through IRD thereby making every site feel its continuous participation in the conference. The magnificent coordination and teamwork of the VC division, NIC HQ was praised by all participants. The switching from one site to other was virtually unnoticeable. Congratulations and thanks to all members of VC Division for repetition of their excellent performance.

 

 

 

Dedication of Videoconferencing Network of Rajasthan by Hon'ble Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje - 9th August 2004

Hon'ble Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje at Secretariat VC Studio along with Senior officials of State Government and Smt. Indu Gupta, SIO, NIC- RajasthanHon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan Smt. Vasundhara Raje dedicated the Videoconferencing facility to the State and People by conferring over the VC facilities with all 32 district Collectors on 9th August 2004.

Hon’ble Chief Minister interacted with 10 sites namely, Jhalawar, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Bharatpur and Dholpur. All the Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors, SPs, IGs Police, DIGs police posted at divisional headquarters were present during the conference. Chief Secretary, Principle Secretary, Finance and many other Senior Secretaries of the State Govt were accompanying Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje.

Hon’ble Chief Minister appreciated the efforts put in by National Informatics Centre in commissioning the state of the art Videoconferencing network across the State at such a short span of time.

Hon’ble CM Smt Vasundhara Raje recorded her comments during the dedication ceremony of the VC network in the state -

"I am actually very pleased to see that NIC has done such a fast job. Congratulations! I am sure this is just the first of our initiatives and there are going to be many others which we are going to do in Rajasthan." 

"This is the right step in the right direction".

Hon’ble CM recorded in the guest book - 

"This was a long awaited experience, some fine tuning needs to be done. I am sure that we carry on using the systems, there will not only be improvement but also will be most useful for the State".

The Chief Secretary Rajasthan commented -

Hon'ble President Addressing the audience over VideoconferencingHonorable President of India Shri A P J Abdul Kalam addressed a function on the Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Sh J R D Tata through videoconferencing facility which was arranged by National Informatics Centre on 31st July 2004.

Hon'ble President participated over Videoconferencing from Rashtrapati Bhavan. The videoconferencing was conducted at a very short notice using ISDN lines between Rashtrapati Bhavan and Taj Hotel, Mumbai. NIC-Mumbai facilitated the Videoconferencing set up at the venue of the function in Mumbai.

Justice Verma (Retd.) for E-Governance in Justice Delivery System - 22nd July 2004

The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Justice OP Verma (Retd.), today underlined the need for using e-governance facility in Justice Delivery System to make it speedy and effective.

Justice Verma INteracting with DG-NIC over VideoconferencingSpeaking after inaugurating the Network and Data Centre for e-governance facility set up in Chandigarh, Justice Verma said that National Informatics Centre (NIC) should explore the possibility of using video conferencing facilities in the trial Courts for recording the evidence of under trials especially hardened criminals. He said that bringing the under trials to the Court involves lot of manpower of Police Department and there had been numerous cases where under trials had escaped while being transferred to the Court. He said that Video conferring was the effective tool to speedy conclude the evidence of such cases. Ms Neeta Verma, Senior Technical Director of NIC, New Delhi who had specially come to the Chandigarh for the function informed the Administrator that NIC had already submitted the proposal of National Judicial Commission to allow the recording of witnesses by Video Conferencing especially those witnesses who are staying abroad.

Earlier, Justice Verma inaugurated Network & Data Centre (NDC) for e-governance applications setup by National Informatics Centre. NDC is first of its kind in Northern States of India. Administrator UT also inaugurated Video Conferencing Services from UT Secretariat and interacted with Dr. N. Vijayaditya, Director General, National Informatics Centre in New Delhi. Home Secretary, Mr. R. S. Gujral, Finance Secretary, Mr. Karan  A. Singh were also present on the occasion.

Justice Verma at the Network and Data CentreThe NDC shall have state of art infrastructure to facilitate e-governance initiatives of Chandigarh Administration as well as to cater to wide variety of computing and networking requirements of the government. 

NIC has provided 4 Mbps Internet Connectivity over leaded lines backed up by satellite based equipment (SCPC VSAT). A state of art high capacity, storage area network (SAN) is also set up in NDC to provide consolidated storage infrastructure for Intranet Applications, Citizens Services, Databases, E-mail and other internet services. It shall be operational on 25*7*365 basis. Chandigarh Administration has also connected all the major buildings to the NDC through high speed Fibre Optics backbone. Upcoming SAMPARK centers being set up by Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration and other Cash Collection Centres shall also be connected to the Data Centre through 2 mbps leased lines.

Video Conferencing facility at UT Secretariat established by NIC is based on a high-speed satellite system (DAMA VSAT), installed for the purpose. Eight sites can conference with each other at one time. The equipment is also capable of conducting Video Conferencing over ISDN. It provides an effective way of delivering cost efficient interaction/training to individuals without the need to constantly travel to central locations.

 

WTO meeting with Australia, Brazil, US, and EU through NIC’s Video Conferencing by Shri Kamal Nath, Minister of Commerce and Industry - 19th July 2004

Shri Kamal Nath, Minister of Commerce and Industry participated in a meeting between Ministers of Trade and Commerce from Australia, Brazil, US, and EU on 19th July, 2004 through NIC’s Video Conferencing to discuss the draft framework for the trade negotiations at World Trade Organisation (WTO). Shri Dipak Chatterjee, Commerce Secretary and Shri S.N. Menon, Special Secretary also participated. The meeting was facilitated through Video Conferencing at National Informatics Centre (NIC) Head Quarter, New Delhi.

Later the Hon'ble Minister visited the Integrated Network Operation Centre (I-NOC), Integrated Data Centre (IDC) and Certifying Authority (CA) office of NIC and appreciated the role of NIC in the development of Information and Communication Technology in the country.

Hon'ble Home Minister Shri Shivraj Patil's Videoconference - 10th July 2004

A videoconference was organized by NIC for Hon'ble Home Minister, Shri Shivraj V. Patil at his residence on 10th July 2004 between New Delhi and Singapore.

Hon'ble Minister interacted with delegates at Asia Pacific Business Summit, being organized by the Indian Merchants Chamber in Singapore. 

NIC assisted the Indian Merchants Chamber, New Delhi chapter is successfully organizing the conference over ISDN lines. The conference lasted for an hour and the video link was connected using ISDN lines at 256K.

 

Post Budget Press Conference held at PIB - 8th July 2004

The publicity exercise of Press Information Bureau for the Railway Budget, Economic Survey, General Budget and Post Budget Video Press Conf. of PIB Hqs. has been successfully supported by NIC. PIO and other officers of PIB have expressed appreciation for NIC's support. 

During the Post Budget Video Press Conference, a panel comprising Finance Secy, Revenue Secy, Expenditure Secy, Chairman CBDT, Chairman CBEC interacted with the media assembled in seven Studios of NIC at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Lucknow between 1600 hrs and 1800 hrs on 8th July 2004.

The Video Press Conference was successful. The panel thanked NIC for this facilitation.

Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Videoconferencing - 3rd June & 29th June 2004

Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri Arjun Munda conducted a series of videoconferencing on 3rd & 29th June respectively and interacted with District Administration of all districts of Jharkhand to review Law and order situation and monitoring the progress of various Government Programmes. The meeting was held in groups of 4 sites at any point of time and was highly appreciated by Hon'ble Chief Minister.

 

Tele-Education for North Eastern Region & Lakshadweep - 11th June and 30th June 2004

NIC conducted Tele-Education in the filed of Medicines by holding two separate conference on 11th june and 30th June for doctors of North Eastern region and Lakshadweep respectively. The lectures were taken by Prof. A.K.Baronia and Prof. Kumudani Sharma from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute, Lucknow over Videoconferencing. The lectures were broadcasted to all the blocks of CIC as well.

 

Hon'ble President's Videoconferencing with Bangalore - 25th June 2004

Hon'ble President of India Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, delivered a Lecture on 'Future Developments on Space Science' during a concluding plenary session of a Seminar in connection with the India-US Conference on Space Science being held at Hotel Ashoka, Bangalore on 25th June 2004.

Videoconferencing link was established between between Rashtrapati Bhavan and Hotel Ashoka-Bangalore. The VSAT link was provided by ISRO and the videoconferencing facility was provided by NIC. During the videoconferencing session which lasted for more than an hour, Honb'le President interacted with several delegates of the Seminar through videoconference.

Hon'ble President was appreciated the usage of the videoconferencing technology by commenting "Now I need not travel to different places and instead use this facility to interact with the remote people".

 

Videoconferencing Support to Doordarshan during Election 2004

Videoconferencing Division provided support to CPC, Doordarshan during Elections 2004 held recently. Under this programme the field officer of Doordarshan from selected districts were able to share and transfer the Video footage of elections and other important activities related to election to CPC, New Delhi over videoconferencing.

Honourable President Shri A.P.J.Abdul Kalam's Videoconferencing with BEL, Bangalore - 21st April 2004

Honourable President of India Shri A.P.J.Abdul Kalam participated in the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bangalore through Videoconferencing from New Delhi on 21st April 2004. The event was witnessed by around 10,000 people present at BEL's Bangalore complex. A question and answer session followed after the speech of Hon'ble President where he answered few selected questions posed by the audience present at Bangalore.

NIC provided the Videoconferencing link between Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi and BEL, Bangalore using its Mobile VSAT over NICNET at a high speed of 768 Kbps.

 

Launching of South Asian Medical Journal over Videoconferencing between Delhi and Karachi - 2nd April 2004

A videoconferencing was organised between Karachi and Delhi on 2nd April 2004 on occasion of release of South Asian Medical Journal. Senior Doctors from Sir Gangaram Hospital participated in the conference from Delhi end. The conference was well received by all the participants present at both the ends especially Karachi since this was the first time such a type of conference was being held.

Inauguration of Power Projects of NTPC, NHPC & PGCIL by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India – 9th February 2004

Honourable Prime Minister Shri A.B.Vajpayee dedicated three major power projects to the nation on 9th February 2004. Presiding over the programme from Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi Hon'ble Prime Minister dedicated the 1000 MW Simhadri Thermal Power Station of NTPC, 300 MW Chamera Hydroelectric Power Station of NHPC and Associated Transmission and the North Eastern Region Unified Load Dispatch and Communication System of PGCIL to the nation.

NIC had set up Mobile VSAT at all the three locations and Vigyan Bhavan where Hon'ble Prime Minister along with Hon'ble Union Minister of Power Shri Anant Geete and Minister of State Power were present. Hon'ble Prime Minister unveiled a Plaque for each of the three locations.

 

Post-budget 2004 Videoconferencing from PIB - 3rd February 2004

Press Information Bureau conducted Post Budget Press Conference over videoconference on 3rd February 2004. NIC provided Videoconferencing support to PIB by installing Mobile VSAT at Shashtri Bhavan. Local press people from Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkatta, Guwahati and Bangalore participated in the press conference.

 

Internet Support at XII SAARC Summit 2004

Hon'ble Prime Minister alongwith the NIC TeamNIC had setup the VSAT based Internet Connection as desired by MEA & PMO at two locations at Islamabad-Pakistan i.e. P.M. Camp Office (Hotel Serena) and Indian Media Centre (Hotel Holiday Inn) during the recently held XIIth SAARC Summit at Islamabad, Pakistan.

A team of six members from NIC New Delhi went to Islamabad on 2nd January, 2004 along with portable VSATs and necessary equipments for providing the data link. After reaching Islamabad, these VSATS were installed and high-speed data link was provided at both the locations. The VSAT was installed on SCPC mode and was oriented towards PANAMSAT-10 Satellite Transponder and Internet was provided through NIC’s Gateway (NICNET). The Data Link at both the locations was provided at a downlink bandwidth of 1920 Kbps and uplink at 128 Kbps. 

At the Indian Media Centre, high-speed internet connection (2Mbps DSL) on a LAN having about 50 PC’s was already operational prior to the installation of NIC’s setup. After discussing with the officers at the Control Room of the Indian Media Centre, it was decided that NIC’s setup would be used as back up for the existing connection. In addition to this, NIC had also setup a videoconferencing and voice link between P.M. Camp Office, Indian Media Centre and NIC-New Delhi.

At Hotel Serena, apart from providing Internet connection at P.M. Camp office, NIC had also provided Internet connections for P.S. to P.M., Control Room – Indian High Commission.
